5 Years in 8mm
This story plays out as if sitting with family in a cozy living room, watching old tapes flicker on screen. A mosaic of moments, from the euphoria of top surgery to the camaraderie of queer community, going shirtless at the beach to the tender experience of falling in love, each glows with warmth. What begins as a montage of everyday life crescendos into a vignette of Brooklyn streets alive with protest, a collage of connection, perseverance, and celebration defiant in the face of oppression. At its heart, this short film explores how coping and joy intertwine. Coping is survival, a way through dysphoria, stigma, and uncertainty, and joy becomes the radical antidote to that pain. Recurring themes include belonging, affirmation, transformation, and the interplay of vulnerability and celebration.
