    Technical Requirements and Troubleshooting

    ~3m

AOM is a web-based platform. There's nothing to install and no special hardware required. Here's what you need and what to do if something isn't working.

    What you need

    • A modern web browser. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge all work. We recommend keeping your browser up to date.
    • A reliable internet connection. The films stream directly in the browser, so you'll want a connection that can handle video without buffering. If you're running a class in person, test the room's Wi-Fi ahead of time.
    • A screen with audio. For in-person classes, you'll want to project or share your screen so participants can watch the films together. Make sure the room's speakers are working. For virtual classes, share your screen through your video conferencing tool (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, etc.) and make sure "share computer audio" is checked.

    What participants need

Participants access materials through their own devices by logging in using a code sent to their email. All they need is a browser and an internet connection.

    Common issues and fixes

    • Film won't play. Check your internet connection first. If you're on a campus network, some institutions block streaming video by default. Contact your IT department and ask them to allowlist artopeningminds.org.
    • Audio isn't working during a virtual session. Make sure you checked "share computer audio" (or the equivalent) when starting your screen share. This is the most common issue with virtual classes.
    • Participant can't access materials. Have them check their spam/junk folder for the access code email. If it's not there, you can resend the code from your dashboard.
    • Page is loading slowly or looks broken. Try a different browser or clear your cache. If the issue is happening on every device and browser email us at support@artopeningminds.org

    Tips & Notes

    • Test everything the day before your first class. Watch a film, check the audio, open the slides. Five minutes of testing saves a lot of stress.
    • If you're running a class on a campus network with strict filtering, ask IT to allowlist artopeningminds.org and any associated CDN domains. We're happy to provide a specific list if your IT team needs one.
    • For anything not covered here, email support@artopeningminds.org. We respond within one business day.
